Located between Maryland and Virginia in the Shenandoah Valley,
In Berkeley County there are 11 Fire and Rescue departments.
Six of the departments are run by dedicated volunteer EMT's, Paramedics, Firefighters,
and Administrative personnel, With Five of the eleven departments having paid staffing.
The oldest department in Berkeley County is the Martinsburg Fire Department formed in 1905.
Several major factories and industries are located in its boundaries including a regional airport
that houses a National Guard Unit which now flies the C5 Galaxy.
Interstate 81, and Route 9 which is now partially 4 lanes runs through Berkeley County
providing for many different types of materials to pass both in and out of Berkeley County.

SPRING MILLS, W.Va. — Second accident in W.Va. caused by drivers attempting to avoid I-81 backup. Five vehicles and a tractor-trailer were involved in a crash on northbound Interstate 81 near the Spring Mills exit Tuesday afternoon, according to Berkeley County 911 officials and West Virginia State Police.

HAGERSTOWN, MD — A 69-year-old Falling Waters, W.Va., man and his wife were killed in a fiery crash Tuesday morning after a pickup truck rear-ended their Jeep Liberty on Interstate 81 near Williamsport, according to Maryland State Police.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A 30-year-old man accused of attempting Tuesday to burn the mobile home where his children live with their mother told police after being captured he had just used heroin, according to court records.
