Hardy County

Located in the Eastern Panhandle which borders Virginia, is primarily a rural area.
The dominant economic drivers are agriculture (poultry) and manufacturing poultry processing and furniture/cabinets).
The county is known as the “Poultry Capital” of West Virginia.
Strategically located between northeastern, southern and midwestern markets, With Interstate 81 to the east and Interstate 79 to the west, the county is easily accessible via major freight carriers.
U.S. Route 220 and State Routes 55 and 259 transverse throughout the county.
Corridor H, Completed From Wardensville to Moorefield, From Moorefield to Mt Storm is under construction, this highway will offer direct interstate access through Hardy County.
The George Washington National Forest also transverse through the County.
There are three Industrial Parks located within the County they are:
The Wardensville, The Robert C Byrd, and Moorefield Industrial Parks.
The South Branch Valley Railroad provides daily rail service that connects with the CSX at Green Spring.

MOOREFIELD, W.Va. — On Monday February 22nd 2010 at 1930 Hrs the Petersburg Volunteer Fire Department (Company 400) was alerted to assist the Moorefield Volunteer Fire Department (Company 46) with a Fully Involved Structure Fire on River Road behind the 84 Lumber. Rescue Engine 495 and Tanker 492 responded.

MOOREFIELD, W.Va. — Major cleanup and repairs at fire-damaged Moorefield High School moved ahead Tuesday so that staff could report Wednesday, and students possibly as early as Thursday. The school has remained closed since Friday’s incident.
